After vanishing in Kalakeyas, Amarendra Baahubali is declared the future king of Mahishmati, and Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubati) is declared Chief Commander. Before crowning, Rajamatha Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) begins to look for a bride for Amarendra. She advises the two to walk through the kingdom to understand the present state of this and of its people. Amarendra falls in love with Devasena (Anushka Shetty), a princess of the Kuntala kingdom, the king’s sister in that kingdom.
Bhallaladeva learns about Amarendra’s tribulations to conquer Devasena and to plan a plan for herself to marry herself. Sivagami, not knowing that Amarendra is in love with Devasena, promises her hand to Bhallaladeva in exchange for certain treaties. Sivagami sends an emissary to the Kuntala kingdom that delivers the request in marriage in a way not too pleasant. Invalid, Devasena rejects the proposal with a hasty answer. Sivagami is angry because of the answer and orders that Amarendra and Devasena be captured and brought to prison in Mahishmati.
The Kuntala Kingdom is attacked by an army called Pindaris. Amarendra, helped by Deva’s maternal uncle, Kumara Varma (Subbaraju), manages to withstand the attack and save Kuntala. Amarendra confesses who he really is and promises Devasena that she will protect her honor regardless of costs and persuade her to come with him to Mahismati for her future bride. When they reach Mahismati, the misunderstanding begins to emerge, and Amarendra is left to choose between staying king or staying with Devasena.
