The film unfolds events in an alternate present where fanciful creatures exist in the modern world and live with people. Between humans, orcs and elves there is a fragile armistice after these three races have fought for thousands of years. In Los Angeles, veteran police officer Daryl Ward (Will Smith) was forced to pair with Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), the first orc police officer in the city. As if he is ostracized both by people and by orcs because he has chosen this profession. In addition to the piedicille made by the other police officers, Ward also has a personal tooth against him because of an incident where he seems to have left an orc who shot Ward to escape. During a patrol, Ward forces his partner to look when an orche of his is beaten and arrested. The idea is to show Jakoby to whom he should be loyal. As they return to the station, the man they arrest the two tells Jakoby in the orc’s language that they are involved in a prophecy and that Ward is blessed. When pressed to tell what the individual told him, Jakoby lied and said that they were just some bad luck. Later on, during a quest led by Kandomere (Edgar Ramirez), an elf working for the FBI’s magic division, it turns out that the man is part of a group called Shield of Light who is preparing to return the Lord of Darkness.
