On Christmas Eve, Amy (Mila Kunis) is alone in the house with all the Christmas decorations in ruins. She says she ruined Christmas for everyone, and then she tells us how she did it. Six days earlier, Amy, like any other mother, is stressed to make the winter holidays as special as possible for her family. As she is now with Jessie (Jay Hernandez) and takes care that her daughter Lori (Ariana Greenblatt) spends her time with her children, Jane (Oona Laurence) and Dylan (Emjay Anthony), Amy would like things be quiet for Christmas.
But her whole plan is overturned when her much-aggressive mother, Ruth (Christine Baranski), is going to spend the Christmas holiday with them. Amy expresses dissatisfaction with Jessie, but he assures her that everything will be fine. Meanwhile, Kiki (Kristen Bell) is still overwhelmed by the care of the four children who are trying to make a Christmas tree break, but this time she receives help from her husband, Kent (Lyle Brocato).
Kiki is overwhelmed when her mother, Sandy (Charyl Hines), appears three days earlier than she expected, and plans to spend the next three weeks with her. Sandy loves Kiki so much that she’s wearing clothes with Kiki’s face since childhood, which makes her look so obvious. Elsewhere, Carla (Kathryn Hahn) is unhappy with the fact that she is much too demanded during holidays. When she gets home, she is amazed to see her mother, Isis (Susan Sarandon), standing in front of her door.
