Ad Astra

The Earth undergoes a series of cataclysms caused by radioactive explosions. Everything indicates that the cause may be related to a ship that was sent to Neptune in search of extraterrestrial life and that disappeared almost twenty years ago. One of those crew members was Roy’s father, an astronaut who has not yet overcome that loss and will be sent on a dangerous mission through the stars to discover the truth behind a threat that endangers all humanity. The novel The Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad; his apocryphal adaptation to the cinema (Apocalypse Now) and the disturbing reflections of the Nobel Prize in physics Enrico Fermi served James Gray (Z, the lost city) to bring this space epic to life. One of the recurring themes in his filmography, paternal filial relations, acquires a capital importance in this transformative journey through the stars where a son, still traumatized by the loss of his father years ago, is willing to cross the galaxy with such to rescue him. Hidden secrets, action, moments of intimacy or existential reflections coexist in Ad Astra, a film that, unlike other exponents of the genre, poses a future in which humanity discovers that it is alone in the universe. Brad Pitt (Once upon a time in Hollywood) confirms his return to the elite with this film, applauded at the Venice Film Festival, which stands out for its impressive visual section and the proven scientific base provided by NASA and other space agencies...

Rambo- Last Blood

Finally retired in his old family ranch, John Rambo lives a quiet life with Maria and her granddaughter, Gabriela, an orphan of a mother whose father abandoned her as a child. Although Rambo, who has become a father figure to her, does not want her to travel to Mexico to meet that abusive man, Gabriela decides to cross the border. When he does not return, Rambo will leave in search of him and, after finding her drugged and raped by members of a dangerous cartel, will unleash all his fury against them. 40 years ago, Cornered (in English First Blood) turned an Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone (Creed II: The Legend of Rocky) back then into the great action hero of the 80s (with permission from Schwarzenegger). As the title indicates, Rambo: Last Blood will be the last chance to enjoy the bloody adventures of this soldier whose post-traumatic disorder goes back to the Vietnam War. With a certain twilight western scent, this fifth installment of the saga, directed by Adrian Grunberg (Vacation in Hell), presents the former green beret in a golden retreat, surrounded by horses and a happy family, which is interrupted when a dangerous cartel kidnaps, and abuses, its adopted granddaughter. Created as a tribute to the iconic character, the film shows the most intimate side of an emaciated Rambo physically and mentally in the most personal battle he has fought; a hell of revenge where you will dust off your ruthless survival, weaponry and stealth skills...

When he discovers that it is actually a swallow adopted by his parents after an unfortunate incident, Manou will decide to travel to know its origins and other birds of the same species. Seagulls and swallows will have to face a great threat together and then Manou will become an unexpected hero. Christian Haas and Andrea Block, with extensive experience in special effects of films such as Assault on Power or Independence Day: Counterattack, debut as directors in this animated film starring a fast swallow that has been raised as a seagull. The family and the search for their own identity are the main themes of a film that shines when it comes to capturing the beautiful landscapes of the French Riviera, while proposing a thrilling and fun story where two opposing species of birds come together, thanks to its young protagonist, to fight a common enemy. The different characteristics of these birds, such as the impressive dives of the seagulls or the aerial choreographies of the swallows, add another point of spectacle to a group that, with large doses of adventures and sense of humor, will delight children...

Joker

While taking care of his fragile mother, Arthur Fleck struggles to fulfill his dream of succeeding in the entertainment world. However, whether at work for hours, or as an amateur monologuist, he has to endure teasing and contempt of society. On the verge of madness and in search of a father figure who finds neither in the millionaire Thomas Wayne nor in the host Murray Franklin, Arthur will be the protagonist of a series of events that, instead of laughter, will cause panic. Awarded with the Golden Lion at the Venice Festival, Joker is the first in a series of independent projects where Warner is committed to creative freedom, instead of large budgets or cinematic universes, to tell more risky stories that involve emblematic characters of the cartoons of DC. In this way, Todd Phillips (R3sacón) introduces Batman’s arch nemesis into the low backgrounds of a Gotham inspired by the gangster cinema of Martin Scorsese (producer of the film). There is a film with its own personality where immorality, nervous laughter and violence are confused in the disturbed mind of an ignored, and even despised, being by society. Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters brothers), who has lost 25 kilos for this role, signs a new masterful interpretation as this free version of the character (does not take as reference any previous comic or movie), a man mired in pathos deeper that will resurface as Prince Clown of Crime to unleash chaos and defy the fundamentals of the system...

Crawl

After a category 5 hurricane devastated his town in Florida, Haley ignores the authorities and tries to find his missing father. You will find him locked and wounded in the mezzanine of his house, however, at that moment the storm begins to get worse and both are trapped while the water level rises little by little. They will soon discover that this climb is the least of their problems and that they have in the house new neighbors with long teeth: huge alligators. For a couple of years the summer terror comes more from the hands of sharks than from haunted houses, demons and beings from other worlds. Movies such as Blue Hell (2016), 47 meters (2017), Megalodon (2018) and now 47 meters 2 (2019) have resumed the bad reputation of white sharks that Steven Spielberg unfairly opened in 1975 with Shark. In general, many of these past shark movies have contributed quite little in terms of suspense, form or plot. Underwater hell, however, has the virtue of combining the cinema of natural disasters with that of menacing sea creatures, although in this specific case we speak of crocodiles, a branch of terror less frequent than that of sharks although with good examples such as The territory of the beast (2007) o The beast under the asphalt, classic of the B series. The suspense is maintained throughout the footage thanks to the veteranship of two people who know what they are doing, their producer, Sam Raimi (director and creator of the infernal Possession trilogy, champion of the best low-budget horror movies) and its director, the French Alexandre Aja, responsible behind the cameras in Piranha 3D (2010) and especially the hills have eyes (2006)...
