Predator – Badlands
So, Dek, a young Yautja hunter, feels like he’s stuck in his older brother’s shadow. He craves that cool “mantle” thing—the invisibility gear that their alien clan is famous for. But things get complicated fast when his dad basically says both his boys aren’t cutting it and challenges the older brother to a deadly duel. Meanwhile, Dek finds himself on his brother’s ship heading straight to this crazy dangerous planet full of wild creatures, including the legendary Kalisk—a beast nobody’s ever been able to take down.
On this scary planet, Dek doesn’t expect to make new buddies but stumbles upon two interesting allies: a tiny primate-thing with armor-like skin and an upbeat android who doesn’t have legs but knows heaps about the land.
“Predator: Badlands” tries to shake up the usual alien-hunter story by putting one of those aliens in the spotlight. The fun part? Seeing serious Dek team up with this super positive and funny android gives a quirky vibe to everything. Elle Fanning totally nails it with her humor as the android!
It’s kind of like one big action-packed odd couple adventure that shouldn’t work as well as it does since they’re fighting against evil Earth robots while feeling like they’re in some Disney flick or something!
This movie tries to mix the scary space monster vibe like in Alien with a bit of that cute Disney feel, especially when it comes to a creature that’s just begging to be made into a toy. They ditched the humans for androids in this one, which helped it dodge some of the stricter censorship rules in America, even though there are some pretty intense scenes — just without all the blood.
This is quite a shift from the last movie, Prey. The only thing sticking around seems to be director Dan Trachtenberg’s knack for cooking up cool action scenes with that alien hunter dude. But here, it’s more about big showdowns and less about nail-biting tension. You’ve got giant monsters and super-armed foes who seem way scarier than anyone faced before.
The main character, Dek, is all CGI—think orcs from Warcraft or those blue folks from Avatar—and he’s basically mad all the time. While his anger kinda makes sense given what he’s been through, it gets old fast. Even when he pulls off some slick moves, they don’t excite as much because they’re missing that real-life athleticism or fully animated flair like you’d get in Predator: Killer of Killers.
One funny twist? The flick only really grabs your attention once the alien gathers a crew…
So there’s this android, right? She’s kinda more human than you’d expect for a robot. And just like anyone else, she’s got family drama going on. Unlike some others who get sidelined because of how they look, her issue’s with her programming—she’s got a bug that makes her different from what the big Weyland-Yutani company demands. They’re the same folks from the Alien movies and they’re not too happy about it.
Anyway, there’s another android played by Elle Fanning who’s chasing after her and this guy Dek. In their world, stuff gets real when this intense scene happens—an android missing its bottom half grabs onto some other legs to cause trouble! So picture this: one part is swinging punches while the other half’s doing its own thing! It’s action-packed and pretty hilarious if you think about it. Wildly creative, right?
