Sierra (Shannon Purser) is a smart but not popular girl who is keen to get to Stanford University. It does not fit into the traditional physical beauty standards of high school, but has a personality full of will and charm. Veronica (Kristine Froseth), on the other hand, is very popular and often tries to make her life a Sierra heritage, always attacking her with ugly words especially about her physical appearance.
When Jamey (Noah Centineo), a cute football player, asks for Veronica’s phone number, she’s lying, and to get rid of him, she gives him the Sierra’s number. Her lie makes Jamey send text messages to Sierra, believing she is Veronica. After several conversations through messages and flirting, Sierra gets to like Jamey, although he realizes that he thinks he’s sending someone else’s messages. The next day, Sierra tells her buddy Dan about what’s happened, but he’s somewhat skeptical.
When Sierra discovers that Jamey thinks she is sending Veronica messages, she is addressing her who is upset by a recent breakup. She offers to teach Veronica to look smarter by giving her meditations in exchange for keeping her secret to Jamey so she can continue talking to him. Veronica accepts both of them begin their plans. As she continues to work together, Sierra learns more and more about Veronica’s family life and begins to attach to her.
