Hogan “Hoagie” Malloy, Bob Callahan, Randy “Chilli” Cilliano, Kevin Sable and Jerry Pierce have been playing leap since they were nine years old and this game lasted for a month every May. Since then, the main rule of the game is that the last one is “leapfrog” will remain until May next year. As Hoagie is the one who lost the previous year, he initially recruits Bob, the CEO of an insurance company, and then Chilli and Kevin for a final attempt to catch Jerry, the undefeated champion of the game.
Hoagie then tells others that Jerry plans to retire after this year’s game because they marry. Rebecca Crosby, a Wall Street Journal reporter who reports on Bob, joins them and decides to write an article about them. They are also accompanied by Hoagie’s wife, Anna. As soon as they get to their hometown, Spokane, Washington, they give it to Jerry and draw him to a local club, but they are fed up with Jerry’s skill.
Jerry then presents his fiancé, Susan. While the rest of them express their disappointment that they were not invited to the wedding despite their close relationship, Jerry knew that if they did, they would try to take advantage of the opportunity to defeat the game and spoil the ceremony. They would not play the leap at any wedding event if they were invited. Even so, the group is trying to get Jerry trapped shortly before the wedding events and right afterwards.
